Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park

Endless Plains. Untamed Drama.

Serengeti National Park is Africa’s most legendary safari destination. Covering nearly 15,000 square kilometers of vast savannah, golden plains, rocky kopjes, and river systems, it delivers one of the richest wildlife experiences on earth.

The name “Serengeti” comes from the Maasai word Siringet, meaning “the endless plains” — and once you stand there, you understand why.

Landscape & Ecosystems

The Serengeti is incredibly diverse:

  • Endless short-grass plains (south)

  • Acacia-dotted savannah (central)

  • Rocky kopjes (perfect predator lookouts)

  • Riverine forests (north & west)

  • Grumeti and Mara river systems

This diversity supports one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.

Wildlife in Serengeti

 Big Five

  • Lion (very high density)

  • Leopard

  • Elephant

  • Buffalo

  • Black rhino (mainly in protected northern areas)

Serengeti is particularly famous for its large lion prides and dramatic predator action.

Predator Capital of Africa

  • Cheetah (excellent sightings in open plains)

  • Hyena

  • African wild dog (rare but present)

 The Great Migration

The Serengeti hosts the world-famous:

Great Migration

Over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, move in a continuous circular journey between Tanzania and Kenya in search of fresh grazing.

River crossings in the north are among the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on earth.
